Need for Training Regulation on E-Commerce and Digital Marketing

One of the deliverable components in the Philippines E-Commerce Roadmap 2016-2020 is the establishment of e-commerce education programs in K-12, College, and vocational programs.

With the growth of e-commerce and digital marketing in the Philippines, perhaps it is time for the industry to consider coming up with a pro-active training regulation that relevant government agencies can adopt to allow its offering in the formal educational system whether through face-to-face or online offerings.

This way, more schools will be able to offer and give opportunity for those who would like to learn it at a young age.

This will ensure solid foundation is established for those venturing into this field. It can also pave way for recognition and acceptance of skills in international markets especially when government-recognized proof is necessary to support one's education and knowledge claim.

From a bigger perspective of things, the government and commercial sectors are being pushed to adopt e-commerce especially with the release of the Philippines E-Commerce Roadmap (2016 to 2020). Its target at the minimum includes:

Hitting the goal of 100,000 MSMEs to do e-commerce

At the moment, both the DTI and DICT are doing their own roadshows empowering businesses and individuals to embrace online opportunities to their respective industry and practice.

Promote E-Commerce Education

This is one area identified in the roadmap. I am glad to receive news that TESDA is reviving its recognition of e-commerce training programs. I hope they will make a public announcement soon in this regard.

To hit the target of 100,000 businesses, various individuals are being trained in enabling MSMEs to do e-commerce. If the private sector can come up with minimum training regulation on this topic that relevant government agencies can adapt, this can be formally offered in educational institutions, whether vocational or K12 or college, with the minimum skills, foundation, standards to help meet industry needs.
